I spent the week getting the house and yard ready for my reception for the officers and appointed members of my team. Herb and Lannie came over and we set up the sunshades, tables, bar and anything else we needed to do to get ready. Greg arrived with the refrigerator truck and we loaded the water on board for the hospitality room. Greg and Lannie then set off to deliver the truck to the hotel and get the power set up. Sisters Sandy and Linda arrived and cut vegetables, melons, sliced meats. Linda busied herself scrubbing walls and cleaning up where my ineptness in housecleaning was most obvious. Wendy joined us and the preparation was completed. Wendy left for the hotel and I planned to follow but Sandy and Linda decided that we should rearrange the setup of the backyard and we rearranged the layout.

I left for the hotel just after 6PM with a trailer full of supplies and items for the hospitality room as well s my clothing for the week. There were many Early arrivals at the hotel and photos just had to be taken of the "working president" - still in sweat pants and a dirty T Shirt. We had some help unloading the trailer then I slinked away to my room for a shower. I felt mush better (and probably smelled better as well) and headed down to the lobby area to meet and greet early guests.

I had forgotten the printed directions to my house as well as my regular glasses so I headed back home to retrieve them and decided to leave the trailer there even though I would need it the following day. While there Trever called and we arranged to meet a the hotel so he could deliver the keyboard. I then worked with Dave Repp to download the U-tube videos for the banquet. Finally went to bed about 1AM.

I woke at 5AM (damn), showered and ready for the big day and the reception at my house. I first drove out to the Susie Irvine Golf tournament to greet the hackers then back to the hotel for the Corps of Corps meeting. I started the meeting as Hexible then turned the meeting over to Claude Nelson before heading home. I picked up my trailer and then to Wally's Rental for the chairs for the reception. Linda and Sandy were the first to arrive followed by Wendy and Denise. Everything was in place by 2:30 PM so we had a short time to relax a bit before the first guests began to arrive. We quickly filled the back yard and everyone had a rousing time. I did interrupt the frivolity for a short time and presented my year end Coins to all the officers and appointees present, thanking them for their service to the US Senate this year. Most folks left just before 6PM and a few remaining folks helped to load the chairs into the trailer and generally clean up, wash serving utensils and get ready to leave for the hotel and early hospitality. We had a taco bar and what a great meal that was, snacks and pies followed and the bar was busy as usual. Another late night.

Denise and I made the rounds of the early committee meetings then met with US JCC President Elect Joanie Cramer who joined us at the Presidents meeting and first time Senators meeting. After lunch I attended the Future Directions committee then scooted into my final Executive committee meeting with the outgoing officers and appointees. We had a short time to visit the hospitality room then lingered in the hotel lobby when walked in a Klingon Warrior and the Duras Sisters - my you should have seen the looks on the faces of the hotel staff and some of the guests in the lobby. They were associated with a fan club and were there to judge the Regional booths. I quickly went upstairs to get dressed for the States Party. And what a party it was. I was in awe of the ingenuity of the regions. There were transporters, the bridge of the enterprise complete with crew, even the original Captain Pike was there.


-->We had Romulin Ales, Klingon Blood Wine, Cardassian Kanar, Saurian Brandy, Aldorian Ale, Gorn Balls, Tribbles and many other out of this world treats and everyone got into the act. I even won a purse and shawl in the raffle. Considering the number of raffle tickets I bought I figure they cost me around three hundred bars of latinum - but all for a good cause. After the party I went back to the room to change and was waylaid by the Region 8 folks who lured me into their lair where I was served voluminous quantities of champagne and left over Cardassian Kanar. I finally escaped and joined the folks for a game of screw your neighbor. Then some much needed sleep.

I rose early and had breakfast with the Krekorian crew. I followed them to the Golf course to "Bless the Balls" and helped the ladies set up the lunch room for the hackers return. My next task was to return home and retrieve the trailer of chairs for return to Wally's rental. Then a stop at the Trophy shop for the Awards before heading back to the hotel. I arrived in time to attend President Elect Joanie's first training at 11:00 am and we were joined by an impressive group of Senators. She was very open with the current state of the Jaycees and some positive steps to improve the membership. There was much discussion on what would be the most effective ways for the Senate to help. I attended part of the Foundation meeting and presented Earl with one of my flag stanchions holding the American and Missouri Flags. That evening I participated in the Foundation Auction where I purchased an old Star Trek Phaser game. Of course the evening continued in the hospitality room with conversation and games until the wee hours.

I awoke for a busy day. Showered and dressed then went down for breakfast before attending the Memorial Service at 8:00 AM. In addition to honoring our departed Senate friends there was a special memorial to Past President Allen Pierce. Quite moving especially since his wife Connie was there with us. The Business meeting followed and as happens with the best laid plans we did not finish before lunch so I recessed the meeting at noon to be reconvened at 1:30PM. We reconvened and I presented my year end awards before the elections of the 2010-2011 Executive Officers. Elected this day was Mike O'Connell as president, Steve Sutherland as Administrative Vice President, Dawna Gruver as Secretary and Bruce Geddes as Treasurer. The meeting was adjourned before three PM. Joanies second seminar convened at 3:00 PM and was very well attended - she again was very open and many ideas were discussed. The final item on the days schedule was the Incoming Executive Committee meeting where I attended as C.O.B.. The evening was free and many Regions and/or States went out for dinner together. The California Group, of Course, remained and manned the hospitality room.

I and Wendy picked up incoming president Mike and First Lady Kathy and escorted them to their first breakfast meeting. Kathy was escorted by first lady Wendy to the First Spouses breakfast while I escorted Mike to the Past Presidents breakfast. I supplied him with the appropriate footwear and he performed his tasks well serving the past presidents. I delivered Champagne to both breakfasts although there was a bottle of Bailey's that magically appeared at the Past Presidents breakfast.

I attended Joanie's final discussion at 12:30 on Thursday where we again had a good turnout. These discussion meetings were a last minute idea and we managed to schedule them in so most everyone would have the opportunity to attend. I was very pleased with the number of folks that attended and participated. We did not solve the ills of the Jaycee organization but those that attended came away with a better understanding of the current status and the steps being taken to reverse the decline. There was also many good ideas on the best course of action for the Senate and Senators.

My sisters and friends joined my presidential assistants to prepare for the reception in the Hospitality room and continued serving champagne to all the guests. I and Wendy stood at the start and had the honor of greeting every guest as they entered. It took quite a bit of time and not everyone was able to sit and enjoy the food and drink before having to get to the banquet room. I should have allowed at least an hour and a half for the reception. I had planned to give my special gifts to my traveling companions at the reception but ran out of time.

We all then lined up for the introductions into the banquet and I donned the Presidential "Chain of Office" that Earl Sawyer had made for us just before the introduction of Wendy and Myself. Jaws fell as folks noticed the chain. We took our place at the head table amid resounding applause. Do I feel worthy - not really - but do humbly appreciate the love displayed.

I was so honored to have Dave Hood there to sing the National Anthem for us, what a great voice he has. He also sang a couple of songs while desert was being served - one "If I had a Brain" as a spoof on why in the world would anyone want to do this!. The second was "If I were King" Again what an Honor. Denise and Joe A were the Masters of Ceremony and did a terrific job of planning the script interspersed with humor and a few good natured digs. We were honored to have Rene Jacobs, president of the Canadian Senate and Barney Ziola, Treasurer of the Canadian Senate with us. Our Friend from the UK, Chris Read who is also ambassador to the Americas from the European Senate also joined us for the weeks activities. The Ambassador to the Americas from ASAC, Ray Bratwaite honored with his presence as well. Special guest US JCC President elect Joanie Cramer and husband Tom honored us with their presence as Joanie led us in the Pledge of Allegiance to the US Flag of freedom.

I did have a chance, although not in the script, to present a few special gifts, To Joe A, a Jack Daniels flask with a nip of JD Reserve and a collection of uncirculated states quarters. To Jeannie, Denise and Wendy Necklaces that I actually picked out myself which were just a small token of my appreciation for their travels over the last four years. Words cannot fully express my appreciation for all they have done for me.

On to the Memorial Awards. These were the most difficult decisions I have ever had to make. Even worse that choosing who to let go when I was a manager of a large staff. By the reaction of the crowd, I think I made the right decisions. I did manage to surprise a few folks.

Katina Repp did a wonderful job for the slide show covering the years events in a short 20 minute presentation. It was time for my last address to the US JCI Senate as president and I was over whelmed by the audience as they applauded after my conclusion. I am not sure if it was what I said or the closing - I had a video of the "fat Lady Singing" before pronouncing that "it is now over" - it did bring a laugh to many right away and some after they realized what had been done. A memory that will stay with me forever. C.O.B. Pat Hoelker presented me with flags from the US as well as California that had been flown over the capital. Star Trek memorabilia and my very special [past presidents ring and pin.

California Senate president CJ Jorif then served me with a divorce summons issued by Sandy McManus concerning the irreconcilable differences between myself and Wendy Bell. I did retain custody of Denise although Wendy had visiting rights. Well done by all.

I then administered the oath of office to newly elected president Mike O'Connell with Kathy by his side. Mike then gave his incoming speech and inducted his officers and Vice Presidents. The Vice presidents then came forward (again not in the script), joined me in a circle around Angie Struttmann while she sand "Proud to be an American". A moving song and the entire audience stood and swayed to the music. WOW!!!

The meeting closed with Kathy O'Connell leading us in the Jaycee Creed. The decommissioning of the Starship USJCI38 is complete. Another non scripted event was the first "Passing of the Chain". Where two chairs were placed in front of the head table for myself and Mike. All the past presidents came forward and "passed" the chain of the office of president from my shoulders onto the shoulders of Mike O'connell. Thus a new tradition for the US JCI Senate was born.

It was now time to don the Shirts for the new administration and join everyone in the hospitality room for our last night together before heading home. Our next meeting will be in September in Blomington.

We were up at 4Am (getting to be a habit) caught our flight through Denver to New Orleans. Mark Conti picked us up and delivered us to the Intercontinental hotel. We met Newton as we checked in and after unloading our luggage into our room we joined the Jaycees on the third floor. We met many Jaycees and the first timers were anxious to get my signature. We then sat in on the US JCC Board meeting where we found that the Jaycees had changed their meeting dates for next June when we planned to meet together. After the first shock we determined that it would still allow us to meet although we would not share meeting days. The Jaycees would meet from Wednesday through TOYA on Saturday while the Senate early hospitality would start on Sunday. Something we can probably work out. The hotel restaurant did not have much interesting on the menu and the prices were pretty steep. We heard about a local establishment and walked to Mothers restaurant. It was local food and very good - price was also right. Returning to the hotel we changed into our formal gear for the Awards ceremony where I had the opportunity to join 2009 president John Webber in presenting the RTF Award.

After the ceremonies we had a drink in our room with Newton and Carol then to John Webber's suite for his reception. We then changed into casual wear for the 2011 onto Chicago party - $9 for a drink (gulp) needless to say we only had one drink before retreating to bed.

We slept in a bit and I did not get to the Jaycee meeting when I was expected to speak. Newton covered my butt and thanked the Jaycees for a great reception. He then called me and I scooted  down just in time to hear Joanie's election speech and see her elected as the 91st president. President Jeff spotted me and invited me to speak to the Jaycee membership. I was certainly honored to do so. I remained in the area after the meeti8ng and visited with many Jaycees. It was an honor to have so many other Senators visible for the Jaycees to visit with. Newton and Carol Standridge, Joe A Souza, Mike Sawyer, Travis Boatright, Ron Whitmore, Steve Sutherland, Kim Newlin and myself.

We had lunch at a local deli and I had to have a Mufletta sandwich for which New Orleans is famous. We returned to the hotel and met up with Travis who had the supplies for our reception for the Jaycees. He had forgotten the wine at home so he and I headed off to WalMart to correct that oversight. I had to get to the 3rd floor as I was supposed to meet Raj and go over the US JCC Foundation but he did not show up. I did have the opportunity while waiting to visit with more Jaycees. At 2:30 Newton and I met with past president John Webber, Current President Jeff Lank and President elect Joanie Cramer to brainstorm areas where we can be of mutual assistance and improve communications. I cam away with confidence that we can assist the turnaround in membership..

Back to the Crew Suite provided by Kim Newlin for the US Senate reception for the Jaycee Executive teams for 2009 as well as 2010. Carol Standridge and Becky Newlin did an outstanding job arranging food trays and serving wine, soft drinks, beer and water to our guests. We had a grand showing of Jaycee officers attend. I gave out my coin gifts and Jeff presented me with a nice gift as well. The Ladies closed our reception while I went to President Jeff's suite for his reception. We then met with the Iowa Jaycees and walked to Gordon Bierch for dinner together. We returned to the hotel and my first Crew meeting where I was introduced as a new member. We enjoyed the comradeship until time for bed.

I joined the other Crew members for breakfast in the hotel restaurant and we had a great discussion of the Crew's history. We adjourned to a meeting room where our discussion centered on better communication between the Jaycees and the Senate. There was about an hour of free time then I attended my first meeting of the US JCC Foundation for which I will serve as a trustee for the next year. Raj rode president Jeff pretty badly during his presentation to the foundation. The meeting went a bit longer than anticipated and I missed Joanie's election celebration. I again donned my penguin suit and visited the Crew suite for a cocktail or two before heading down to the TOYA Banquet.

We were assigned to a VIP Table which we shared by past TOYA Recipient and son of Nevada Senator Chris Mumm. It was an impressive ceremony with 8 of the 10 awardees present. There was entertainment by a local singing group delivering many do-wop songs of the 50's and 60's. I remained in the area to visit with some of the Jaycees before changing into more comfortable garb and again visiting the Crew Suite to say our goodbyes. A short visit to the Jaycees dance then to bed.

I took the red eye special from SFO to Detroit. It was a pleasant flight as I sat next to a young lady from South Carolina who had graduated college and relocated to San Francisco. She was on her way to visit her parents. We did find something in common, both of us had a bronchial event occurring so we "coughed together" for the flight. On my arrival in Detroit I had to "hot foot" it to the commuter terminal but arrived in time to grab a cup of coffee before boarding the plane to Syracuse, NY. The coffee was much needed as it was 5:30 AM and I had only managed about an hours sleep on the plane. The weather was a bit rough going out of Detroit but mother nature smiled on us as we landed in Syracuse.

The weather held and I had a very pleasant drive to Kingston, Ontario, Canada. There was a short backup at the border but I arrived at the hotel just as the Senate tour was returning. I joined everyone for lunch then the afternoon was free. I had a chance to get the wrinkles ironed out of my shirts and grab an hours much needed nap.

The obnoxious alarm went off so I showered, which made me feel much better, then joined the group in the lobby. We boarded a bus which took us to Fort Henry and dinner at the historic "officers mess".

We were instructed to act as officers and treat the "soldier waiters" as officers of the period would have treated their servants. No Thank You or Please was to be used. Each able was assigned a "president" whose job it was to insure that the diners were of their best behavior and protocol. No elbows on the table, no talk of politics or loose women. Violators were charged with singing a song, dancing a jig or whatever the president deemed appropriate for the offense. I was charged with being the president of our table. I did excuse a few to go to the bar but required that they return with a drink for the president. That actually worked for a couple of drinks.

We returned to the hotel and the hospitality room where conversation abounded. I crashed around 10:30 PM.

Everyone met in the Island room for a buffet breakfast before heading to the Bellview room for the program and meeting. Senator Matt Hutcheson's presentation of "Down Memory Lane" was entertaining and brought back memories of the past. Matt is a recent Senator and a national president of the Canadian Junior Chamber. He recounted his days leading up to that position as well as his international experiences. Senate president Al Murphy opened his meeting and ran through the agenda items quickly and efficiently. Elections were held and Rene Jacobs is the new president of the Canadian Senate for 2010 - 2011.
 
We were then addressed by Ian Coristine who spoke of the beauty of the 1000 islands. He is an aviator and photographer and had published many books of photos covering the diversity of the islands. We then had to leave quickly to board the boat (Island Star) for our luncheon cruise of some of the closest islands. We had a nice cruise, a wonderful lunch and excellent friendships. we returned back to the hotel around 3PM with a free afternoon to wander the city or catch a nap.

The presidential reception began at 6PM where we all assembled in a more formal atmosphere. Pele Winery was present with a generous wine tasting event, perhaps a bit far from their namesake in Hawaii. I was honored to be seated at the table of the outgoing and incoming presidents of the Canadian Senate.
The guest speaker was Jack Chang his speech covered his adventures as a journalist and his journey into public service. His delivery was light hearted and humorously delivered. He had the audience in stitches most of the time. Dinner was excellent. The new officers were installed and the outgoing president Al delivered his final remarks followed by incoming president Rene and his vision of the new year. We adjourned to the hospitality room for the remainder of the evening.

Up packed and to the "Give a Damn" breakfast. During their memorial service I read the names of the 101 US Senators that have passed from this life as Ambassador Phyllis Bowers rang the bell in memorium. The mornings presentation was delivered by Debra Lefebvre who organized the Canadian Bed Nets program.

The meeting ended with all Senators "Walking the Plank". An interesting tradition of the Canadian Crew where the incoming and outgoing presidents and spouses line up at the front of the room. Every Senator and spouse then greet the starters then take their place in line to receive the rest of the members. This continues until every person offers congratulations and some small talk and hugs with everyone else in turn. Quite a nice way to end a function.

I drove back to Syracuse without incident, caught my plane and made my connection. I arrived home just after midnight, exhausted but pleased with my excursion to Canada. My thanks for all the hospitality of the Canadian Senate.

I can actually drive to a meeting. No airport hassles, no security lines, no little bags of peanuts. What a treat. I left my home on Friday afternoon and drove to Sacramento Airport to pick up Jeanne - Finally get to pay her back for all those airport pickups on the east coast. We had a quick 10 minute ride to the hotel and arrived in time to check in, unpack and meet the group for dinner. The restaurant was just across the street and we had a large group of California Senators there. The evening was very busy with the California Jaycees Board meeting just after dinner, followed by the Tiger Corps board meeting immediately after. I did get someone to bring over a glass of JD in time to get to the Tiger general meeting and elections. We had some fun during elections and nominated pretty well everyone in the room to a position, Our mode of elections is for everyone to go to one of the walls to vote for the candidate of their choice. Much bantering as folks move from wall to wall with the encouragement of the opposition members. After all the dust settled the serious candidates won, of course. A quick trip to the hospitality room for some serious BS then to bed.

The Senate breakfast meeting convened at 9AM with the necessary business conducted. Then to the serious stuff - Elections of officers for 2010 - 2011. The position of president was contested hotly and the candidates all made their plea for the office. When the dust settled Clarence CJ Jorif was elected our new president. This was, again a busy day as the California Jaycees foundation Trustee meeting was convened right after the Senate meting. Most of this discussion concerned the rental/sale of the office building that we own. Then to the hospitality room for the Concord 2010 convention committee meeting. Whew! there was about an hour where I could steal away to lay down for a bit.



Then it was time for the Tux and the Presidents reception to toast the 45th anniversary before it was off to the banquet room for the 45th celebration. Margaret Souza did a great job as Mistress of Ceremonies, Katina Repp summarized some of the zany things that happened since the 40th anniversary and we had a slide show of the past leading up to this point. I had the pleasure of addressing the group as US JCI Senate president. It was ironic that just 5 short years ago when we celebrated our 40th the speaker was another sitting US JCI Senate President - Joe A Souza. There was a champagne toast, gifts given and another short slide show celebrating this year and the Presidency of Karen KT Talamantes.

The old officers were excused from further responsibility and the new board was inducted. then we all adjourned to the hospitality room for a few toddies, some conversation and a couple of games of hand and foot before heading to bed.

We all met for breakfast in the lobby and a short meeting of the foundation to discuss fund raising ideas. Then I gathered Jeanne up and delivered her to the airport then headed down highway 80 to home. Tired but it was a great weekend.

This is the final Regional Meeting for the year. Denise and I had an early flight so I got up early enough to kick the Chickens awake. Denise picked me up at 4:30AM so we could make or flight on time. We had a straight shot into Houston where David Ray met us and we stopped for lunch before delivering us to the hotel. He had to turn around and head back to the airport to pick up Regional VP Peggy Rider.

There were many folks checking in at the same time so we had a nice time greeting each other. Mike and Bruce came in on Thursday and were on the golf course, where else would they be??? The evening was filled with fellowship as more Senators from Region 8 and other parts of the country joined the party. Texas president David Johnson brought in some "take home" champagne glasses and was mixing many very interesting concoctions for the guests. Many of the drinks were pretty powerful and it began to show as the party went on into the night.

Around 10PM I joined the Rattlesnake Corps Commanders call as past Commander as well as Hexable from California. I gave my pitch for the corps of corps meeting to be held in Concord. Commander Dave Johnson gave us all some pillows in case any of us "old Farts" needed a nap. Back to the hospitality room until bed time.

Denise and I joined the group for breakfast then proceeded to the Region 8 meeting. Peggy ran a nice meeting, I addressed the group and Kent Singular, from Kansas was elected the new Region 8 Vice President. Denise was on the agenda to promote the Concord meeting and veered from the planned talk to announce that she had decided to challenge Mike and run for president of the Senate. This surprised Mike at first as it did myself since this was not something planned. Denise and Mike had been bantering each other, in a friendly way. This generated a lot of excitement and everyone joined in the fun. Folks were donating money for her filing fee and campaign expenses. Denise printed a filing form and filled it out so she had the form and fee for Steve. States were promising their votes to Denise. Mike made a call to Jim Mammon letting him know of Denise's candidacy and wanted to know "What the hell is happening". Unfortunately Jim was not answering so Mike just had to leave that message fully expecting Jim to call back with some concern. This spoof continued through Sunday breakfast when Denise returned every ones money to them. Quite some fun.

After the Region meeting Mike and I attended the PIE meeting of outgoing and incoming presidents for a discussion on having a successful year.

After lunch the Texas Senate had their meting where Jack Cornutt was elected president for 2010-2011. I and Denise left the meeting a bit early as our ride to the Ship Channel Tour was leaving.

We arrived at the dock a bit earlier than expected but soon boarded the boat. The area is restricted so we all had to put our cameras back in the cars (although there were folks taking photos with their cell phones). This was a nice cruise through the shipping channels of the port of Houston which is 50 miles from the ocean and 25 or so from the bay.

It was pretty hot and humid on the channel so I took a nice shower when we returned to the hotel and felt much fresher. We arrived back at the hospitality room in time for a cocktail before heading into the banquet room. Gifts were exchanged and I had the honor of installing the new president and VP. We then had a bus ride to a comedy club for the evenings entertainment. The MC did a acceptable job in introducing the program but the first comedian really stank. He relied on way too many 4 letter words and was not funny. The second act was a much older guy and he was very funny. About the roughest word he used was Damn but he talked about life experiences to which we could relate. The third act was so-so and had some humorous moments. We returned to the hotel after midnight and had a few hours sleep

I caught the first train to SFO at 4AM for an early flight into Atlanta for a 3 hour layover. True to form Delta had a "maintenance problem" with our airplane and departure was delayed for 1/2 hour. Even with the delay we arrived in Myrtle Beach within about 10 minutes of the scheduled time. My friends and fellow Senators Walter and Niki Brooker were there waiting for me and we made it to the hotel. Niki is a transplanted California Senator who was whisked away to South Carolina when Walter wooded her into becoming his wife.

Jeanne, My companion and keeper for the weekend was already there and checked into the room. I connected with her in the hospitality room where there was already a great turnout. I renewed many acquaintances before some of the group convinced me to play a little "Screw-your-neighbor. I was quickly relieved of my money but since it was late and I awoke very early I hit the sack.

WOW! I slept until 9AM, I must have been more tired than I thought. I met some of the folks on the balcony and shared some conversation then some of us made a pilgrimage to the Hard Rock to contribute to the local economy. Seeing that it was past lunchtime we decided on a nearby Mexican restaurant.

We returned to the hotel with time to change into my Tiger Corps shirt for the Palmetto Corps meeting. I gave a pitch for the Concord Corps-of-Corps meeting then returned to the room to change shirts for the Region 4 meeting. Each of the Region 4 State presidents gave a synopsis of their activities for the year. Jimmy ran a nice meeting and stayed with the Regional tradition of short meetings. This was a first as the meeting was not conducted from the back of a pickup truck.

Dinner was a the hotel buffet then we returned to the hospitality room for games, refreshment and fellowship. I made my rounds saying goodbye to all my friends and headed to the room to pack and get some shuteye.

We were up early and off to the airport for my flight to Atlanta. This was a much shorter layover although there was still a long flight to get home - I finally walked into my home at 7PM.

What a change, The flight left at 9Am so we did not have to get up at oh-dark thirty. We arrived at the Boise, Idaho Airport and were greeted by an impressive welcoming committee. My entire Executive Committee; VP Mike, Secretary Steve, Treasurer Bruce and our shuttle pilot Will Hansen.

We loaded into two cars and drove for about 2 hours then stopped at Lardos restaurant in McCall Idaho for lunch. Another hour and we arrived at our hotel in Riggins. After settling into the room we headed to the hospitality room where we were joined by Jack Myers, no relation although when Jack was president of the California Senate I served as his Vice President and we were the "M & M Team". Past US Senate president Hap Hilbish was there to greet us as well as many long time friends from Region 9.

A short drink then it was off to Seven Devils restaurant for dinner just a few blocks from the hotel. Actually I guess everything was just a few blocks from the hotel. Although the food was great I think we overwhelmed them with our number. We were seated outside and the smell of the open grill made us all the hungrier. I assume that the grilling was the issue as the table that I was seated at was served dead last and many of the others had already finished their meal and were departing for the bar or the hotel. The ladies at our table of 7 were getting a bit cold so we moved inside to finish our meal in comfort. When we returned to the lodge we found that the hotel serves homemade cookies and milk every night and we did not refuse to partake of their generosity before trudging off to bed.

 I sure wanted to stay in bed when the alarm sounded but we were up to join the others for breakfast. The Idaho Senate conducted their meeting at 9AM and president Aaron Reed ran a productive meeting. I briefly addressed the Idaho members and presented Aaron with my flag set and received some nice gifts as well.


After the meeting Aaron led 3 vehicles laden with the visitors up as far as we could go in the mountains surrounding Riggins. The snow finally got too deep to traverse. We stopped frequently on the way back to see the wonderful view of the mountains and valleys.
 
We stopped at the Rapid River Salmon Hatchery where we learned everything about harvesting and fertilizing Salmon eggs to the final release of the young fish for their return to the Pacific Ocean. Our guide was quite a character although quite an expert in this operation.

Back at the hotel we gathered a small group and walked to a local cafe for lunch. Then we had an hour to retreat to the room for a rest.

The Region 9 meeting began at 4PM, There were the usual reports then my entire team of officers presented their case to the members for electing them to their next office. Will Hansen was slated to be elected as the Region 9 Vice President but some of us could not let him be uncontested. I rose in nomination of Jack Myers, my illegitimate father with some raving banter about how great he was, Sonny Jones from Oregon, seconded his nomination. Jack then spoke of his qualifications (or lack thereof). We all had a lot of fun and the members present had a good belly laugh before Jack withdrew his candidacy. Will was unanimously elected.

Dinner in the hospitality room followed and conversations abounded, storied were told and lies were abundant. Finally everyone would down and it was time for bed.

Denise and I had a late flight out of Boise so we rose, packed and joined the others for breakfast. Mike, Steve and Bruce had earlier flight and had already left the hotel. We loaded our gear into Will's car for the return to Boise. On the way back we stopped briefly at Will's Mom and Dads home then drove to Table Rock to see the Jaycee cross. It was quite a hike to the top from the parking lot but we made it and it was a spectacular view of Boise. We made our way back to the car then to the center of town and lunch at Bitter Creek Brewery. Will then delivered us safely to the airport for our quick hour and fifteen minute flight home.

Thanks to President Aaron and the Idaho Senate for a wonderful weekend.
